The HDPE Electrofusion Coupler is a special fitting designed for electrofusing two pieces of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) pipe together. Utilizes electrically heated elements placed within a coupler to provide strong, reliable and leak-free joints.
During the fitting, the pipe and fitting surfaces melt together when the specified electrical heating cycle is followed to produce a permanent connection between pipe and fitting. HDPE Electrofusion Couplers are commonly found in water supply, irrigation, gas distribution, industrial pipelines, mining, and wastewater and utility pipelines where reliable pipe joints are critical. They are also compact and can therefore be used where standard butt-fusion units would be hard to get in place.
What Is an HDPE Electrofusion Coupler?
An HDPE Electrofusion Coupler is a cylindrical fitting made from the material HDPE for joining two HDPE pipes of the same outside diameter. The coupler has an embedded electrical heating wire or resistance element. When installed, an electrofusion control unit provides a controlled electrical current to the embedded element.
The interfaces between the fitting and pipe melt due to the heat generated. These materials are heated and cooled to a certain degree and then they are fused together to make a firm bond between the two.
Mechanical couplings are connected using clamps, threads or compression. Electrofusion couplers are fused during installation to create an HDPE-to-HDPE connection as per the manufacturer’s procedure.
